Used Containers...
Containers are disposed of by the major shipping companies after several years of use, but are still in serviceable condition, either for shipping use, or for dry storage purposes.
As with any used equipment, the general condition of used containers will vary, some of the storage units will have had harsher treatment than others, and consequently the price that they are offered at will vary according to the age and general condition. Prior to sale the second hand containers are inspected and repaired as necessary, and if they are to be used for export cargo, Leavesley Containers are authorised to carry out the inspections required to conform to the CSC Plating requirements.
In addition to the standard steel ‘box’ containers that Leavesley Containers offer, other specialised types of steel shipping containers are available from time to time. These include:-
Open Top containers, these have a removable PVC roof which allows bulky objects to be loaded with a crane
Flat Rack containers, a heavy-duty base with end frames for top lift, but no sides or roof, these are designed to carry oversize cargoes.
Insulated/Refrigerated containers, originally used for frozen food cargoes.
The full range of Leavesley Containers' stocks are available for inspection at our Branston Depot, located alongside the A38 northbound carriageway between Container Details ISO Standard freight containers are suitable for many things other than their original use to move goods around the world. Our containers are designed and manufactured to withstand rigorous transportation by road, rail and sea, and can be lifted with gross weights of up to 35 tonnes. Construction is typically of high tensile steel framework with ribbed steel cladding to sides and roof, usually of Corten steel. Internal floors are of 27mm thick treated timber, fixed to steel cross members at 30cm centres. Double doors are fitted at one end secured by full height locking bars with handles that can accept a padlock. Additional security can be provided by a steel “Lock-Box” on the doors, standard on some new units, optional extra on others.
